My husband and I share a love for travel. We like to throw ourselves out of our comfort-zone and fly abroad landing ourselves into the great unknown. It is daunting, exciting, scary, exhilarating and liberating.
After a lot of damn hard work and very frugal living, we decided to push home reno’s aside and head to Europe. And we couldn’t possibly fly to the other side of the world without staying with ‘my French family’; the wonderful people with whom I did student exchange with 15 years ago. We stayed in rural France for one week which was a truly amazing experience and definitely the highlight. From there we bid our farewells (hopefully not for another 15 years!) and caught the train south bound all the way as far south as Naples, Italy. We stopped along the way in Lucerne in Switzerland; Lake Como, Cinque Terre, Pisa, Florence, Rome, Naples and Pompeii in Italy, before catching the plane back to beautiful Paris in France.
It was a big trip. It was tiring in terms of our itinerary (because we can’t help ourselves and we just try to pack everything in); and I guess more tiring caring for our toddler mind you she’s a very cruisey little jet-setter. But it was even more tiring when you’re in the early stages of pregnancy which we discovered in Paris at the end of our trip. Good thing we snuck this trip in! It was completely worth it and we now have some wonderful memories.
Seeing the New Year with beautiful people in a quaint village of Alsace, ice-skating at Lake Como, wandering the colourful villages of Cinque Terre, sipping hot chocolate by the Leaning Tower of Pisa, meandering the streets of Florence and Rome with their endless historical marvels, climbing the steps of the grand Colosseum, attempting to push a stroller along the bumpy paths of Pompeii, eating pizza on the streets of Naples and been blown about atop of the Tour d’Eiffel.
It was amazing. And the best part was being with my husband and daughter for the entire month making memories we’ll cherish forever. Well, let’s face it…maybe the 21 month old won’t remember but she’s in plenty of pictures to show her down the track!
There are a LOT more pics but we’ll save them for the family album! Feel free to comment below…
